January Session Highlights: Settling Into Safety Within with Saskia Katherine

author: saskia katherine breathwork event recap

This piece comes from Saskia Katherine's first session leading The Monthly Integration (TMI) gathering. After eight years of holding this space myself, watching her guide our community home was one of the most moving moments of my work as a teacher. Saskia has been in this community for years, completed three trainings, and this past year went full-time in Integrative Breathwork. I couldn't be more proud. This morning, I asked for guidance in my journal about what this session really wanted to be, what I could offer through me to you. And the first thing that came up was a question: What can I place trust in when the world feels uncertain?

I had a moment where I thought, well, that doesn't seem like guidance—that's a question coming from within me. So I listened a little longer.

What I heard was: Truth is not conceptual. And it isn't about certainty. Truth is felt. Coherence in the body.

I allowed myself to listen a little more, and I heard: Rooted doesn't mean that you're calm or all knowing.

And then what came in said: It means having a place inside of myself where fear can come home and soften.

I really had to let that land.

It means having a place inside of myself where fear can come home and soften. That is what it means to be deeply rooted.

I stayed with that idea, and I let myself feel it. Because I do believe that a lot of times when we're searching for clarity or for answers, those answers are already here. But does the system, does the body feel safe enough to actually receive or accept or embrace that truth and that wisdom that's already there?

So I asked: How can I best support others in rooting within themselves?

And I heard four invitations.

The Four Invitations

The first invitation: Rootedness is how we access authentic guidance. Action can follow. But without rootedness, without rooting, action carries urgency—and so often that urgency is filled with fear.

The second invitation: The body is where truth becomes knowable. And then I heard something that surprised me. I heard: Not spiritually. Not symbolically. Physiologically.

That one surprised me because I love spirituality. I love being in the realm of spirituality and symbolism and energy. But what I really heard underneath that is that the body wants to be honored as a source of wisdom.

The third invitation: Alchemy happens through coherence. When the mind, the body, and the spirit align, something gets to really reorganize around our truths. That's the mechanism of how we become rooted—coherence.

The fourth invitation: When fear is brought home, it loses its grip. And then I heard: It doesn't disappear. The fear doesn't have to disappear. It gets metabolized. It gets alchemized.

This isn't a practice about releasing. We don't have to release or let go of fear or of doubt or of uncertainty. It's about integration.

When fear and uncertainty and questioning get to come home in the body—when they get to be held—those parts of us that are feeling the fear and the uncertainty, when those parts get to be held in this body, then they get to be held in power instead of running the show.

So much of my fear lives up here in my brain, in my head—the place where society usually privileges, where knowledge is supposed to come from.

But if we drop into our bodies through this practice and we actually allow those fears—we don't have to release them, we don't even have to understand them or analyze them—but if we let those fears come home to this body, then they get to partake in the wisdom and the light and in the power that lives in our body.

It gets to be that simple. But also that powerful.

From that place, when our fears are being held, when our uncertainty and our doubt is being held and is being brought into that power and into that light and into that wisdom—then the guidance that we're seeking gets to emerge naturally and organically.

And then that guidance carries that power and that frequency.

And so when we take action outside of ourselves, that action is carrying that power, that love, that belonging, that safety. And that's what we're rippling out into the world.

I think underneath all of those questions—What is my place in this world? What is my place in these times? What is the action that I'm meant to be taking?—It's actually our parts asking for something simpler.

Can I come home?

Is it safe to rest here?

Am I loved?

Do I belong?

I think we all know that the answer is yes.

But now we get to actually practice the felt experience of that.
